Astatic T3
By converting sounds into electrical signals this acoustic to electric transducer called the microphone, has been able to produce clear high quality sounds to listeners since the 1800s. The microphone can now be found in hearing aid, sound cards of personal computers, cellular phone, and telephones, CB radios, used in movie studios and on radios. It is also the dominant feature in other recording and voice over devices.
In 1946 the Astatic Microphone Company from Ohio started to officially produce microphones. So good were the quality of these microphones that some of them have become very popular and valuable collector's items. The Astatic T3 mic is one such collector's item. The vintage Astatic T3 microphone is highly accredited by harmonica players because of its ease in handling.
There are two distinct types of microphones the dynamic and the condenser mics. The condenser cost more than the dynamic microphone, and is used mostly in studios, as it is not as durable as the dynamic mic. The dynamic microphone on the other hand is better to handle harsh conditions and is more resistant to moisture, which makes it perfect for outdoor events.
The vintage Astatic T3 is a dynamic microphone made with beautiful shiny chrome. It therefore requires care to maintain its value. The user should keep this Astatic T3 in a safe dry place. Avoid scratching and getting the microphone wet as this will erode its value. If the grill is not removable use a slightly damp brush and remove dust particles from it, then turn the mic upside down until it is dry. However if the grill is removable, detach the grill and wash the grill in warm soap water, using dishwashing liquid. Gently replace the grill as soon as it is dry.
